Blucanto: Planning Discipline for First-Time Founders
Alongside our SAP and supply chain work, Mungapen Consulting is involved in entrepreneurship and startups. Blucanto is the project we are most excited to share.
Why a consulting firm is building a startup product
Large programs run on a simple idea: cut the work into phases, and at the end of each phase hold a go/no-go gate, with the criteria written down before anyone knows the answer. It is the discipline behind the enterprise transformations we deliver, and it keeps teams honest about whether to continue, change course or stop.
First-time founders rarely get that discipline. They get a pile of advice and a launch date. Blucanto applies the same phase-gate thinking to a company of one, sized for the fifteen or so hours a week a solo founder actually has.
What Blucanto is
Blucanto is a planning product for first-time solo founders. Answer a few questions and it produces a Business Blueprint: a plan with the decisions, and the numbers that trigger them, set in advance. Around it sit a niche explorer, a scored dataset of business ideas, and a library of articles on the parts of starting a business that tend to get skipped.
The first article in its founder series
The first piece, How to Start an Online Business Alone: A 12-Month Roadmap, maps the first year as a planning model: about 824 planned hours across eight work streams, with five go/no-go gates at months 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12. It is explicit that this is a plan, not a measured result.
One finding stands out for anyone advising or backing early-stage founders: selling and marketing account for 48% of the planned hours, more than building the product.
See the 12-month roadmap for solo founders. More articles in the series follow every couple of weeks.
